You Have To Leave Beautiful Places To Find Even Better Ones

In the last post, in which I shared with you why nature makes me happy, we spent a night on a platform at a mountain lake in the valley of Morgan. It's a beautiful place and a perfect spot for an overlander with a roof top tent, so we've been there several times. That’s why this time we would like to try out a new spot for the next night. So we crossed the heart of the island and lead past the “Presa de las Niñas” to the “Presa de Chira “.

Near the lake Chira we discovered an off road track which we drove along for a while to check if there would be an opportunity to find a nice campsite. Luckily we found a beautiful place with a view of the Presa de Chira and even the Roque Nublo in the distance.

Although a pitch from the night before was nice, it’s always worth driving further to find even a better place.

That's what we love overlanding, the anticipation of discovering a new beautiful place where you can stay with your home on wheels, is amazing. You have to leave beautiful places to find even better ones. That's the goal of every overlander and if you even discover on your way a nice off road track where your four wheel drive can let off some steam, it’s the ultimate overland travel day.

After we followed the off road track for a while we came back to this little spot because we saw it before and we really liked it, as there was a sufficiently flat area and we even had a beautiful view of the lake.

After we set up our roof top tent we checked out our surrounding, while we went for a walk with our dog Lotta.

She also enjoys arriving new places, as we always see her exploring the new area with full commitment and she always seems very happy to us.

The sun started to set down slowly and it began to cast that beautiful golden light on the surrounding mountain hills, which looked very nice but we would like to be back at “Lenny The Overlander” before sunset started because we wanted to watch the sunset from our temporary home.

Since it gets dark quite early in the winter months in the mountains of Gran Canaria, mostly shortly after sunset, we prepared quickly our dinner before, so that we could have it right after the sun went down.

After everything was prepared we just waited for the magic.

And what can I say….!!!

Once again we had not promised ourselves too much, it was a gorgeous and magic sunset that we could enjoy and I could even record it with my phone as a time lapse, which we could use for our reel on Instagram. Actually like this it’s nice to safe it as a memory.

Later we lit a small campfire, as it was getting quite chilly, and we let the evening slowly fade away.

The next day, we enjoyed a stunning breakfast and we drove the whole off road track back to Maspalomas, which took us half a day. But it was worth it because it was a great route with many posible campsites we discovered during the drive and with breathtaking scenic views of the valley below us. Even the Teide could be glimpsed briefly from Tenerife.

I tell you Gran Canaria is an overland-paradise!!! Which also includes the climate because for overlanding is perfect, not too warm and never too cold… ;-))

Cheers,

Katy
