I Think I Am Just From The Beach

Since my childhood I have always loved to be on the beach. Preferably all day long.

I was lucky that a large part of my family lived at the Baltic Sea and it was part of the summer time that the entire family spent every day on the beach. Even my father and his bother and sister grew up like that. They almost lived on the beach with beach chairs, sunshades, camping tables, whole range of tableware, big beach towels, sandcastles & Co. From breakfast, lunch, to coffee and cakes, they brought everything to the beach. Sometimes my aunt even made my grandmother's hair done with putting curlers into it when she had a theater date at the evening.

I spent a lot of years with them and I really loved it. That's why I always say: “I am not from a specific country. I am just from the beach.” I think, that’s also one of the reasons why I ended up on the Canary Islands, just to be able to live the "Endless Summer" and being by the coastline as much as possible.

It went almost the same way for my husband. That's why we have met and fell in love into each other here on Gran Canaria, so that we stayed and have chosen our second home as “Lenny the overland” so that we can get to any beach and being able to live there, what we do as often as possible.

We love the freedom, the sunrise ocean views out of Lenny’s tailgate before we get up, sipping a sundowner beer, having dinner with campfire and fall a sleep with the sound of the ocean. We were rewarded with moments that all the money in the world struggle to buy. There might be salt water pumping through our veins yet, as more and more the desire comes up to live this lifestyle not only during weekends and vacations, but also for a longer period of time.

We realize every time when we come back to our house in Pozo Izquierdo, that the more minimalistic we would live the less worries we would have and we would be much more happier. To be honest our house is way too big for 2 People and a dog. We have to take care about a lot of things, so that sometimes it feels overwhelming and not worth it. But we still don’t dare to give it up. Maybe one day we will take the step. At least it’s a good feeling if all else fails, we could quit with everything and live in “Lenny the overland”.

Last year for the first time we went with our Land Cruiser to Fuerteventura to spent Christmas on the beach. It was just the best Christmas we ever had. No obligations, only us and our lovely pitbull puppy Lotta.

The first few days we have spent at the north shore of Fuerteventura, which I already shared with you in my previous post.

Having the flexibility to just move on when you feel like seeing other places is just awesome. We crossed Fuerteventura from the north to the south to spend a day more at the, in my opinion, most beautiful beach in Europe. We have been there so many times and we always like to go back. It’s just a magical place for us with so many beautiful moments and memories we will never forget and this is what you can’t buy with money. This experiences will always remain in your memory. That’s why we’r are trying to fill our life with experiences, not with things. Having stories to tell, not stuff to show.

“Go where you feel most alive.”

Love,

Katy
