What We Did In Asturias - Vanlife Activities

A few posts earlier I promised you that I would share with you some of the things respectively camping activities we did in Asturias.

Yesterday we had a very autumnal day, so I had no guilty to spend the whole day in front of the computer. That’s why I have prepared the promised post and published it today.

Besides the daily surf’s in Peñarronda and our vanlife activities, it's also nice to not use the outdoor kitchen and going out for dinner. We also had some dinner-out’s, which was extremely good in Asturias. At the coast of Asturias the food is a sheer pleasure, the menu includes a wide variety of fish and seafood. First time we went out to the small fisher town called Tapia de Casariego. Tapía is located directly at the wonderful green coast of the Bay of Biscay, it has a lovely old fishing port and offers a wide range of traditional stores and restaurants on the seafront. We visited the Restaurant “Casa Del Mar”. It was absolutely delicious dinner in a beautiful surrounding and a pleasant atmosphere with a view to the historic port. We had as a starter a cheese platter with different cheeses from the region and afterwards as main dishes octopus, bonito, squid in its own ink and mussels.

On our last evening before we traveled further to Galicia, we went again for dinner but this time in Peñarronda in a small restaurant located directly on top of the cliff at the end of the beach where we always went surfing. After a great surf day we had fantastic authentic tapas with pulpo al gallega, zamburiñas, which you can see on the pics below, croquetas de jamón ibérico and cheesecake. It was again absolutely delicious!

In between, during our stay in Asturias, we made fresh pancakes for breakfast in our camp at Mexota beach. I still had two ripe bananas which I mashed and mixed with 4 eggs, flour, oat milk, vanilla flavoring, sugar and baking powder to a dough.

For more reality on internet, please excuse my angry face, I hadn't slept well that’s why I was in a bad mood. Sometimes not everything is perfect and that was “me” that morning. Vanlife is not always easy or everything is happy sunny sunshine. Often the campsite search is a challenge, the weather doesn’t cooperate or your don’t feel well in terms of health or emotional. Especially as a woman having the periods and there are no public toiltes around, is every month a challenge. Or you probably just need some distance, which is a little tricky living in 3-4 square meters. On the pics often everything looks super nice, but therefore I would like to tell you that you will also have some difficult times and this is also part of it. It’s ok to have also some bad times.

Luckily during that amazing breakfast, which we topped our pancakes with all the goodies, such as fresh raspberries, nuts, cream fresh, honey and chocolate cream, my mood brightened up. I was probably just hungry. Actually we also had some fun by frying the pancakes, as everyone got to flip a pancake.

The exact recipe of the pancakes I unfortunately can' t let you know at all, because it was simply freestyle. I just mixed everything together until a suitable dough came out.

Our evenings were actually almost all shaped like on those pics. Except for the campfire, which we had done only on one evening. Until the next day a friendly woman asked us not to continue to make campfires, because otherwise we could get difficulties with the police, which leads to the fact that all campers have to leave that place. Which, of course we didn't want to, that’s why from that day on we didn't light campfires, also due to the dryness we had in the woods of Galicia, where we stayed later on.

Although it was quite cold when it got dark, we have always stayed outside until 10 pm or longer for some Skibbo games, good talks and a lot of laughter. When we got too chilly we put on warmer clothes and our woolen blankets. The men kept their shorts on, of course, because it was summer vacation, whether they were freezing or not.

During that trip Jess and me had definitely a lot of fun facts about the similarities we had discovered among the two brothers we are together with. Good to have such a nice sister-in-law. For sure, the guys had also a couple of reasons to laugh about us… ;-)))

In this sense, hold on in those troubled times and remember not everything is perfect. But maybe today it’s possible for you to put a smile on a someone’s face. Or just spread some good vibes! You never know, it might be a big help for that person.

Love,

Katy
