How To Wear The 80s-Layering-Look

To create an 80s-Layering-Look you definitely need to know the layering technic. Because layering is a typical style of the 80s.

Last Wednesday I told you in my article about the Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Trends that the 80s are back. Thats why I would like to show you on today’s outfit how to style the 80s-Layering-Look.

First of all I like vintage band tees really well. Because you can wear it to almost anything and they just let every outfit become a cool look. I chose an oversized Metallica tee. The colors of the tee are typical 80s, like bright pastel tones.

But now, the most important: The layering

For me, layering began in the 1980s. I used to layer fancy outfits and I loved all of them. But today it’s more difficult. A lot of woman are afraid to layer their clothes, by the reason of the fear of looking bigger than they actually are. But A perfectly layering-look will compliment your body shape and create an appearance of a more proportional silhouette. So I prepared for you a few quick layering Tips:

  • Keep the under-layers more fitted to keep your shape looking slim.
  • If you’re concerned about your waistline, try to top off your look with something belted.
  • Length and proportion is key when layering. Use different lengths, but it should fit into your proportion (not too long).
  • Play with texture. It’s best to incorporate a mix of materials when styling a layered look. If you use all of the same fabrics, your outfit will appear as more heavy and dowdy.

The 5 steps to my 80s- Layering-Look

  1. As the lowest layer I started with the colorful Metallica tee.
  2. Then I added a layer with the romantic bra top made of black lace.
  3. As a last layer on the upper body I wore an oversized 80s blazer.
  4. At the lower part I wore a high waist pants with pleats, added fishnet stockings and pastel colored Vans (same color scheme like the tee).
  5. As accessories added just a shopping bag made of cotton with a statement on it.
